| Sumario: | In the last fifty years, the traditional museum has been challenged by critical perspectives that seek to define its political role and their ability to act as agents of change in the social fabric. A museum that seeks to transform its environment may benefit from a perspective that analyzes how social situations are produced and reconsiders who and what takes part in it. Thus, some authors have shown interest in the ontological turn. This line of thought proposes that, in addition to serving as a backdrop for action, objects are capable of suggesting or inhibiting actions and have the capacity to modify the meanings they were supposed to convey. This framework enables new practices and ways of thinking about collections and the museum's social role. This research seeks to continue this way of thinking and focuses on the analysis of two Argentinean museums: Ferrowhite workshop-museum and the Toy Museum of San Isidro. We asked ourselves how the ontological turn permeates these contemporary local museums and what strategies for social engagement emerge from this new framework of action. |
